Actor Anthony James Has Died
Actor Anthony James, best known for his role in Clint Eastwood’s Western film Unforgiven, died from cancer just two days before his 78th birthday
The star tragically lost his battle with cancer just two days before his 78th birthday.
Anthony was best known for his role in Clint Eastwood’s 1992 Western film Unforgiven.
He died on Tuesday at the age of 77.
Anthony enjoyed a long career in Hollywood, landing his breakthrough role at the age of 26 in 1967’s The Heat of the Night.
The movie won Best Picture at the Academy Awards the following year.
Anthony’s decades-long career also saw him star in movie Vanishing Point, High Plains Drifter and Tick, Tick, Tick.
He also landed numerous TV roles, appearing in Hawaii Five-O, Knight Rider and The A-Team.
Anthony retired from acting after his starring role in Unforgiven.
He portrayed Skinny Dubois, starring alongside Eastwood, who also directed, and other huge stars, including Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman.
After giving up acting, Anthony focused on his passions of painting and poetry.
He sold pieces of his artwork to galleries and had books of his poetry published.
Anthony’s obituary states that he was not survived by any siblings or children, but that he’ll be remembered by “his many friends, including the ones who sat with him and cared for and comforted him at home in his final months and days.”
Fans paid tribute to Anthony after news of his sad death.
One wrote on Twitter : “‘RIP Anthony James. A hell of a presence”
“Offscreen he was friendly and affable, the opposite of the characters he usually played,” another posted.
A third wrote: “Anthony James, one of the most recognizable character actors of his age and a top-shelf That Guy”
Instead of sending flowers, those wishing to pay their respects are asked to donate to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) in his memory.
